Group donates empowerment items, assistive devices to indigent PWDs in FCT

TQM report,

A non-governmental organization known as Be inspired Empowered Society of Nigeria donated empowerment items, assistive devices such as wheelchair and white canes to indigent members of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) FCT Chapter.

Barr. Michell Eleojo Musa, the coordinator of the group in the FCT said that it is out of love of the group towards persons with disabilities(PWDs) that they are reaching out to some persons with disabilities (PWDs). She said that it is first time the group is reaching out to persons with disabilities (PWDs) and it is not going to be the last time but the beginning because they will continue to reach out to persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Abdulmumuni Ujah, the Chairman, JONAPWD FCT in his goodwill message appreciated the group for choosing PWDs to empower and said that the partnership with JONAPWD is one that will go a long way to impact positively in the life of many indigent PWDs in the FCT.

He informed that it is not the fault of PWDs that they have disability, it is only a divine making and even in disability, there is still a lot PWDs can do to contribute to the wellbeing of the society.

Beatrice Mube took time to educate the group who are mostly women about the plights of women with disabilities, where she explained that women with disabilities suffers discrimination in all fronts, as a woman, as a person with disability and painfully, even women discriminate against women with disabilities and all these have put women with disabilities to a disadvantaged position thereby making them the poorest among PWDs.

She informed them about Discrimination against Persons with disabilities(Prohibition) Act 2018 and all the penalties associated to some sections of the Act and urged the group to get acquainted with law and ensure their compliance and advise others to do same.

“You have given us wheelchairs and we cannot access your office, what the use of the wheelchair, in the next three years, we wouldn’t mind that you gave us wheelchair today, we will sue you for not providing access for us in your office” she added.

15 PWDs were the beneficiaries and the items distributed were a wheelchair, white canes, hair clippers, grinding machines and hair dryers.

Be inspired Empowered Society of Nigeria whose members are all women have her members in many states across Nigeria, the outreach was put together by FCT branch of the NGO but the event was graced by some coordinators from other states.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to TQM said that they will put the items received to judicious use, they appreciated the group and urged others groups and individuals to reach out to PWDs because things are more difficult for them.
