Anambra ICT Agency Pledges Inclusive Digital Future for Persons with Disabilities

The Anambra State Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Agency has restated its unwavering commitment to creating a digitally inclusive environment that guarantees Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) equal access to government services.

This assurance was given during an advocacy visit to the Agency by the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission (ADRC) in partnership with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme.

In a statement issued by the Agency’s Public Relations Officer, Angela Nwanodu, the ICT Agency emphasized that inclusion remains a central pillar of Governor Charles Soludo’s technology-driven governance agenda.

Addressing the delegation, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Mr. Chukwuemeka Agbata, reaffirmed that the state government is committed to ensuring that no resident is left behind in the ongoing digital transformation of Anambra.

“Technology’s true impact is realized only when it serves everyone, irrespective of physical ability. We are dedicated to eliminating digital barriers and ensuring that all residents of Anambra State can access our platforms without hindrance,” Agbata stated.

He explained that deliberate inclusion is not just a policy direction but a moral and developmental imperative for the state. According to him, the ICT Agency has already provided a wide range of digital tools to the ADRC to boost the Commission’s productivity and enhance its ability to fulfill its mandate.

As part of its next steps, Agbata disclosed that the Agency will soon appoint a Disability Desk Officer to champion accessibility within the ICT sector. He further noted that the Agency will be working hand-in-hand with the ADRC to ensure that all government ICT platforms are upgraded to comply with international accessibility standards.

In addition, the popular SolutionLens feedback system, which provides a direct communication channel between citizens and the government, will be enhanced with PWD-friendly features to guarantee ease of use for every resident, regardless of disability status.

During the visit, the ADRC’s Head of ICT, Mr. Bonaventure Umeokwonna, gave an insightful presentation on the Commission’s strategic priorities, stressing that true inclusivity in governance can only be achieved through intentional partnerships such as the one being fostered with the ICT Agency.

Representatives of the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme also reiterated their support for strengthening institutional capacity and driving policy reforms that promote inclusive governance.

Expressing appreciation on behalf of the ADRC, Mr. Valentine Nwachukwu, Head of Planning, Research, and Statistics, lauded the ICT Agency for its open-door policy and readiness to collaborate. He described the partnership as a turning point in the fight against digital exclusion of PWDs in the state.

With this commitment, the Anambra State ICT Agency has once again demonstrated that the digital revolution under Governor Soludo’s administration is not only about technology but also about people. By prioritizing accessibility and inclusivity, the Agency is laying a foundation for a digital future where every citizen—whether living with a disability or not—can fully participate in governance and socio-economic life.

The Agency continues to work closely with ministries, departments, and agencies across the state, reinforcing its position as a driver of Anambra’s digital transformation agenda. Its latest pledge signals that the future of technology in Anambra will be one that empowers, unites, and includes every community.
