In a significant step toward promoting disability inclusion, economic empowerment, and digital innovation, the Inclusive Skills Development Initiative (ISDI) has continued the implementation of its Laptop and Mobile Phone Repair Training Programme for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The training programme, which commenced on June 18, 2026, is currently ongoing in various communities and is already transforming lives by equipping participants with practical technical skills that can lead to self-reliance, employment opportunities, and sustainable income generation.
The initiative, supported by the Ford Foundation, is designed to bridge the unemployment gap among persons with disabilities by providing hands-on training in mobile phone and laptop repairs—skills that are increasingly in demand in today’s technology-driven world.

Transforming Lives Through Skills Development
For many participants, the programme represents more than just technical training; it is a pathway to independence and economic empowerment.
Across the four participating Area Councils—Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Gwagwalada Area Council, Bwari Area Council, and Kuje Area Council—beneficiaries are acquiring valuable knowledge and practical experience that will enable them to establish businesses, secure employment, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
The initiative reflects ISDI’s commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind in Nigeria’s growing digital economy. By creating opportunities for skill acquisition and entrepreneurship, the organisation is helping participants overcome barriers that have historically limited access to economic opportunities.
Royal Support for Disability Inclusion
As part of activities marking the implementation of the programme in Bwari Area Council, the Executive Director of ISDI, Mrs. Angelina Ugben, accompanied by members of her team and volunteers, paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, (Dr.) Ibrahim Yaro, JP, the Esu of Bwari (Sa-Bwaya) and Chairman of the Bwari Traditional Council.
The visit underscored the importance of community and traditional leadership support in advancing disability-inclusive development initiatives.
During the engagement, the royal father warmly received the delegation and expressed his appreciation for the impactful work being carried out by ISDI in the lives of persons with disabilities.
He commended the organisation for its dedication to empowering vulnerable groups through practical skills acquisition and praised the vision behind the programme. His Royal Highness also acknowledged the critical support provided by the Ford Foundation, noting that such partnerships are essential for creating meaningful opportunities for persons with disabilities and fostering inclusive community development.

The royal endorsement further strengthens the programme’s acceptance within the community and highlights the growing recognition of the need to invest in the abilities and potential of persons with disabilities.
Building a More Inclusive Digital Future
Beyond the current laptop and mobile phone repair training, ISDI is preparing to expand its impact through a large-scale Online Digital Skills Training Programme scheduled to commence in August 2026.
The upcoming initiative is expected to benefit approximately 500 persons with disabilities across the FCT, providing them with advanced digital and business-related competencies that are increasingly relevant in today’s technology-driven economy.
Participants will receive training in key areas such as computer hardware systems, power supply units (PSUs), central processing units (CPUs), and other technology-related fields designed to enhance employability and entrepreneurial capacity.
The programme aims to equip beneficiaries with the knowledge and confidence needed to compete effectively in the digital marketplace while creating pathways for long-term economic independence.
Participants Express Gratitude
Beneficiaries of the training programme have expressed profound appreciation to ISDI, the Ford Foundation, and partner organisations for investing in their future.
Many participants described the initiative as life-changing, noting that the opportunity to acquire practical technical skills would significantly improve their chances of securing employment, starting businesses, and achieving financial stability.
They emphasized that access to skills development remains one of the most effective ways of combating poverty, exclusion, and dependency among persons with disabilities.

Advancing Disability Inclusion Through Empowerment
As Nigeria continues to pursue inclusive development, initiatives such as ISDI’s Laptop and Mobile Phone Repair Training Programme demonstrate the transformative power of targeted investments in skills development.
By providing persons with disabilities with practical tools for success, ISDI is helping to build a society where talent, determination, and potential—not disability—determine opportunities for growth and achievement.
The organisation’s continued efforts reaffirm the importance of creating inclusive pathways to education, employment, and entrepreneurship, ensuring that persons with disabilities can participate fully in social and economic life.
With strong community support, strategic partnerships, and a clear vision for empowerment, ISDI is not only changing individual lives but also contributing to the creation of a more inclusive and equitable Nigeria.
Indeed, through initiatives like this, the message is clear: when persons with disabilities are given the opportunity to develop their skills and realize their potential, entire communities benefit.
Together, a future is being built where no one is left behind.
