Bauchi Becomes 29th Location as Renewed Hope Initiative Intensifies Nationwide Food Intervention
The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), founded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expanded its nationwide food intervention to Bauchi State, bringing the programme’s reach to 29 locations across the country.
The latest intervention, implemented under the RHI Social Investment Scheme, is targeted at persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, providing food assistance to households grappling with the rising cost of living and economic hardship.
The food consignment was formally presented to the wife of the Bauchi State Governor and RHI State Coordinator, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, for onward distribution to beneficiaries across the state.
Speaking at the presentation, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who is the National Chairman of RHI and was represented by the wife of the Vice-President and National Vice Chairman of the initiative, Hajiya Nana Shettima, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to sustained interventions that cushion the impact of economic hardship on vulnerable Nigerians.
According to the First Lady, the food outreach has been sustained through the monthly donation of two truckloads of food items by the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) and an anonymous donor.
She disclosed that the food consignment delivered to Bauchi was donated by the anonymous benefactor, while expressing appreciation to both donors for their continued support towards tackling food insecurity and assisting vulnerable Nigerians.
The intervention comes at a time when soaring food prices and the rising cost of living continue to place enormous pressure on low-income and vulnerable households across Nigeria.
Food Relief Is Immediate, Economic Empowerment Is the Goal
The Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, described the intervention as impactful and commended the First Lady for her compassionate approach to supporting vulnerable Nigerians.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Mohammed Auwal Jatau, assured that the Bauchi State Government would complement the intervention through agricultural subsidies, economic empowerment programmes and educational support designed to improve the livelihoods of citizens.
He, however, noted that while food assistance was crucial as an immediate response to hardship, the broader objective should be to create an economically empowered population capable of achieving long-term self-reliance.
Also speaking, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed announced additional cash assistance for beneficiaries to facilitate the transportation and distribution of the food items to communities and vulnerable groups across the state.
RHI Expands Its National Footprint
With Bauchi now included, the RHI Food Outreach Programme has reached 28 states and the Federal Capital Territory, bringing its total coverage to 29 locations.
Katsina and Akwa Ibom are expected to be the next beneficiaries as the initiative continues its expansion across the country.
The food intervention forms part of the broader Renewed Hope Initiative, which seeks to complement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through targeted programmes for vulnerable Nigerians, particularly persons with disabilities and other citizens facing difficult economic circumstances.
Beyond providing immediate relief, the initiative seeks to promote social inclusion, strengthen support for vulnerable communities and contribute to efforts aimed at improving the welfare and livelihoods of Nigerians.
For persons with disabilities and other vulnerable citizens in Bauchi, the intervention represents more than a consignment of food—it is a timely lifeline amid the growing pressure of economic hardship.
