151 Persons with Disabilities Receive Mobility Aids as City Boy Movement Restores Hope in Oyo Community

By TQM News

In a remarkable display of compassion and commitment to disability inclusion, the Director of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Olufemi Onireti, has distributed 151 mobility aids to vulnerable persons with disabilities in Igboora, Oyo State, bringing renewed hope to beneficiaries and their families.

The outreach programme, held in the historic town famously known as the “Land of Twins,” attracted community leaders, residents, and beneficiaries who gathered to witness an intervention designed to improve mobility, independence, and quality of life for persons living with physical disabilities.

The distribution featured 116 wheelchairs, 10 walking frames, 20 walking sticks, and five pairs of crutches, all presented free of charge to carefully selected beneficiaries from Igboora and neighbouring communities.

For many recipients, the mobility aids represent far more than physical support—they symbolize freedom, dignity, inclusion, and a fresh opportunity to participate more actively in education, employment, business, social activities, and community life.

Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Hon. Onireti said the initiative was inspired by the need to restore hope to persons with disabilities who often face enormous barriers due to inadequate access to assistive devices and limited government support.

According to him, disability should never be viewed as an obstacle to achieving greatness, urging beneficiaries to remain optimistic despite the challenges they encounter.

“I want you to remain grateful to God despite your present circumstances. Disability does not determine your destiny. Keep believing in yourselves, remain hopeful, and continue to pursue your dreams. This intervention is only the beginning, and I assure you that more benefits will come to our people,” he said.

He stressed that empowering persons with disabilities goes beyond charity, noting that providing mobility aids enables beneficiaries to become more productive, self-reliant, and socially integrated.

Hon. Onireti further explained that the City Boy Movement remains committed to supporting vulnerable groups across the country through programmes that improve livelihoods and strengthen community development.

He described the organisation as a prominent youth-driven civic advocacy and grassroots political movement dedicated to advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through people-centred initiatives.

According to him, the movement continues to bridge the gap between government and grassroots communities by promoting political participation, civic education, youth engagement, and economic empowerment while ensuring that no segment of society is left behind.

The event also highlighted the growing need for sustained investment in disability inclusion across Nigeria. Stakeholders observed that while mobility aids significantly improve the lives of persons with disabilities, many more Nigerians still require wheelchairs, crutches, prosthetic devices, hearing aids, white canes, and other assistive technologies to live independently.

They called on governments, corporate organisations, development partners, philanthropists, and civil society organisations to complement existing efforts by expanding access to assistive devices and implementing policies that guarantee equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.

Beneficiaries expressed profound appreciation for the intervention, describing the mobility aids as life-changing. Several noted that the equipment would ease movement, reduce dependence on family members, and enable them to engage more effectively in education, vocational activities, small businesses, and other income-generating ventures.

Community members also applauded Hon. Onireti and the City Boy Movement for extending the gesture to vulnerable residents, describing the initiative as a practical demonstration of inclusive leadership and responsive community service.

The outreach serves as another reminder that genuine development is measured not only by infrastructure but also by the extent to which vulnerable citizens are empowered to live with dignity, independence, and equal opportunities.

As beneficiaries wheeled away with smiles and renewed confidence, the event left a lasting message: meaningful inclusion begins when society removes barriers and provides the support that enables every individual—regardless of disability—to thrive and contribute to national development.
