The Anambra State Albinism Association (ASAA) on Wednesday 9th June visited Office of the Governor on Disability Matters to familiarize with the office and as well intimate the Special Adviser to the Governor on Disability Matters Barrister Chuks Ezewuzie on their activities for this year’s World Albinism Day coming up on 13th Day of June 2021.
The Coordinator of Operations in the office of the Governor on Disability Matters and Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) Anambra State Chapter Comrade Ugochukwu Ernest Okeke introduced the new Association to Barrister Chuks Ezewuzie.
Highlighting the reasons for their visits,the chairperson of the Association, Miss Vivian Ezeonwumelu notified the Special Adviser to the Governor on Disability Matters that they have fully join JONAPWD Anambra as its cluster and have had their election under the supervision of of the JONAPWD state chairman- Comr.Ugochukwu.
She went further to inform him about their few activities lined up for this year’s celebration of World Albinism Day which include;
1.Sensitization program at ABS radio & TV
2.Sensitization program at Authority Radio FM Nnewi.
3.A seminar and symposium.
While the PRO of the association, Comr. Ben Orizu took turn to inform the Special Adviser about some of their challenges which among them are skin cancer, eye issues and unemployment and noted that some of their members have equally suffer from low esteem because of the societal discriminations and pleaded for support to enable them buy special cream for their skin.
Responding, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Disability Matters, Barrister Chuks Ezewuzie gladly welcomed the Anambra State Albinism Association (ASAA) to the Office of the Governor on Disability Matters and commended them for coming together as an association, noting that this is a huge step in the right direction.
He stated that Governor Willie Obiano runs an inclusive administration with special interest for persons with disabilities.
Barrister Ezewuzie hinted them that his office will assist them through an intervention package known as *SSS* which means Sensitization of the general public , Skin Care services and Sight Saving programs.
He requested them to conduct needs assessment among their members and submit it together with data base which his office will find useful in raising a memo for assistance from government and general public to enable the association members take care of their challenges.
While giving his vote of thanks, their vice chairman Mr. James Onyemeze appreciated Barrister Ezewuzie for the warm reception and commitments made. He said that his association made the right choice by visiting the Office of the Governor on Disability Matters and also identifying with Joint National Association of Persons With Disabilities Anambra State Chapter and as prayed God to bless the executive governor of Anambra state Chief Dr.Willie Obiano.
