YULETIDE: IFEPED calls on Stakeholders to Remember Persons With Disabilities

On Tuesday, 21st December, 2021 the Initiative For Eradication of Poverty and Empowerment of the Disabled (IFEPED) held her End of the Year Support/party at the Presidential Lawn, Independence Layout, Enugu.

IFEPED is a None Governmental Organization whose founder and President is Mr Victor Clifford Ugwu.

In a press statement signed by Mr Chijioke Onah, IFEPED’s Director of New Media, the event which graced the physical presence of her Spiritual Director, The Anglican Archbishop of Enugu Province, Most Rev. Dr. Emmanuel O. Chukwuma, The Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Enugu State, Rev. Amb. Emmanuel Ositadimma Edeh JP and other dignitaries.

Archbishop Chukwuma who spoke passionately to the persons with disabilities also encouraged them not to give up in life. He went further to promise on hosting IFEPED and persons with disabilities at the Bishop’s Court on Thursday 23rd December, 2021 to celebrate them personally again.

On his part, Rev. Amb. Edeh, the Enugu State CAN Chairman who is also appointed as the Chairman of proposed Disability Law in Enugu State on the other hand gave the group every human necessary supports both spiritually, financially and otherwise.

The State CAN Chairman has been one of the most supporters of persons with disabilities in the State and beyond. He is a real advocate for a better life to persons with disabilities in the world.

IFEPED who has employed so much resources in data collection and documentation of persons with disabilities in Enugu State has vowed never to give up despite the financial challenges and other difficulties they encounter in achieving the goals on data collection and documentation of those with disabilities in Enugu State as their easiest way to identify with the public for individual benefits.

The President of IFEPED, Mr Victor Clifford Ugwu thanked the Enugu State Government especially Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his wonderful supports to persons with disabilities in the State. He also thanked the Ministry of Gender Affairs and Hon Princess Peace Nnaji for their unimaginable supports to IFEPED and persons with disabilities in Enugu.

Mr Ugwu who lamented that the NGO’s inability to hold her 2021 December 3rd World Disability Day due to lack of funds and none sponsorship by any agency and stakeholders said that he was pained when such event could not hold. He then insisted in hosting the End of the Year Support/party for persons with disabilities from the three Senatorial districts of Enugu State in order to encourage them especially in this festive period.

Mr Ugwu further appealed to people to remember those with disabilities in this Christmas as many of them have no job. The NGO begged the government to help employ those who are graduates among them and train those who are eager to learn any work.

“While we are doing everything possible to end the street and market begging, IFEPED will always fight to ensure that street and market begging is not the answer to the disability challenges but education are” Mr Ugwu said in his closing remarks.
