NCPWD inaugurates Committee to organize the first National Disability Summit (see the full list of the Committee Members)

National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has inaugurated a National Committee to plan and organize the first National Disability Summit slated to coincide with this year’s celebration of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a UN Observance that holds on the 3rd of December, every year.

The Commission on Monday selected eminent personalities from disability community and some staff of NCPWD to plan and organize a National Disability Summit which would create an opportunity for people from all works of life to come together and discuss how to advance disability inclusion in Nigeria.

The inaugurated members of the National Committee on National Disability Summit are; Mr. James David Lalu(ES, NCPWD), Dr. Irene Ojiugo Patrick-Ogbogu (ED, DRAC), Dr. Jake Epelle (CEO, TAF), Dr. Chike Okogwu(CEO, CARE), Misbau Lawal Didi (MD, DIDI RICE), Rasak Adekoya( Program Officer, Sightsavers), David Anyaele(ED, CCD), Ekaete Judith Umoh(Country Director, CBM Global), Agbo Christian Obiora(ED, The Qualitative Magazine TQM), Grace Jerry(ED, IFA), Barrister Danlami Basharu( ED,ANWAB), David Okon, Amina Salihu, Muyiwa Afolayan(Ministry of Education), Comrade Musa Muazu Musa(NCPWD), and Mrs. Oyeyemi Fawekun(NCPWD).

The above members who were inaugurated by the Board Chairman of NCPWD, Dr. Husseini Kangiwa and were charged with the responsibility of organizing a National Disability Summit that will enhance the visibility of NCPWD and issues of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.

The ES, Mr. James Lalu who took time during his welcoming remark to eulogize the members of National Committee especially those present at the inauguration meeting and appreciated them for honouring the invitation in spite the short notice which shows the passion that they have for advancing disability inclusion.

He informed that their main responsibility is to plan and organize a Disability Summit that will enhance the visibility of Nigerians with Disabilities.

He urged the committee to brainstorm within this short time and put the best to make the event a memorable one.

The Board Chairman, NCPWD in his speech commended the ES, and his team for the initiative saying that the ES, have demonstrated high competence and expressed confidence that the selected members of the Committee would organize a successful summit.

He pledged to support the Committee in whichever way possible and urged the members of the Committee to reach out to him whenever they need his assistance.

Members of the Committee pledged their support and agreed to drive the conference together, they also agreed to suspend their already planned activities to mark the international day for persons with disabilities and throw their full support towards the success of National Disability Summit.

TQM learnt that the event would be for two days and it is expected to bring together government functionaries, professionals from all sectors and persons with disabilities across the 36 states and FCT and there would be a lot of activities which would be made public when the plans are concluded.
