MAMA Centre secures N500, 000 FG-CBN Covid-19 facility for dozens rightholders

TQM report,

The Mothers And Marginalised Advocacy Centre (MAMA Centre) has secured N500,000 worth Federal Government(FG)/Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Covid-19 facility for each of her dozens rightholders across Nigeria.

The FG-CBN supported facility obtained through NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, constitutes part of the commitment by MAMA Centre to mitigate socio-economic impacts of the pandemic on rightholders’ businesses and households.

In a press release signed by the Executive Director, MAMA Centre, Chioma Kanu,  the group without hesitation, announced that out of 100 applications submitted by MAMA Centre on behalf of our rightholders in the last six (6) months, dozens of beneficiaries have confirmed payment, while others are currently at various stages awaiting clearance and final approval.

This intervention was necessitated by the disturbing reports gathered from rightholders over the nationwide lockdown in 2020 that amplified socio-economic burden and rendered especially the female-headed households whose livelihoods depend on daily activities for survival, financially incapacitated to provide for themselves and their dependant families.

Just as we respond to the secretive actions by some companies that massively sacked, demoted and extorted personnel, mostly women of employment benefits in the guise of unfair measures to ease financial impacts of Covid-19 on businesses.

We recall that prior to the lockdown, women including the rightholders were marginalised in all spheres of the economy including various inequalities that featured in under-paid or poorly paid employment rewards and other benefits. As a result, rightholders constitute the vulnerable and socio-economic deprived group whose families live below the poverty line, estimated at $1.90 per person per day in 2019 World Bank Report.

The group urged all beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the fund through start-up investment or expansion of existing opportunities in small scale businesses to upturn their socio-economic status.
