Intl Day of Sign Language: CCD calls on INEC and Political Parties for availability of Sign Language Interpreters in 2023 elections

The Executive Director of Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) have called on INEC and Political Parties to ensure availability of Sign Language Interpreters at the 2023 general elections.

He made this call in press release to mark International Day of Sign Language.

Mr. Anyaele who also called for recognition of sign language as an official language in Nigeria, said that it is imperative that INEC and Political parties ensures availability of Sign Language interpreters during the forthcoming General elections even as campaign kicks off ending of this month.

He also called for capacity building of Sign Language Interpreters and more recruitment of sign language interpreters because they are in short supply considering the fact that for effective communication between the public and the Deaf community, sign language interpreters should be every where.

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Sign Language Unite Us”.
