FAECARE Foundation Empowers 20 PWDs In Cucumber Farming Project In Akwaibom State

FAECARE Foundation’s Hope Again Initiative Plus: Cucumber Farming Project, is a community-based training and farming program intended to improve the economic status and well-being of persons with disabilities through cucumber farming.

In partnership with World Connect and JONAPWD-Obot Akara Chapter and Chairman, FAECARE Foundation trained and supported 20 Persons with Disabilities ((12 male and 8 female) in Nto Edino community, Obot Akara LGA in Akwa Ibom State to plant and harvest cucumber farms.

The project was particularly exciting because even though the community is a farming community, many PWDs are unable to cope with rigours of long farming seasons and difficulties of farming some staple crops.

Cucumber Farming which has a relatively short farming cycle was quickly embraced.

After series of trainings on cucumber farming and business, twenty (20) persons with disabilities, from the community were selected to participate, of which eight (8) were women with disabilities.

All 20 farms were harvested to market and many beneficiaries have gone on to plant more farms after the close of the project.

We thank World Connect for thier support of this form of empowerment for PWDs. It was really empowering and life changing.
