ES, NCPWD Lalu visits POWA, seeks Partnership to enhance welfare of PWDs

As part of the requirements of his term of office, the Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Mr. James David Lalu today, 7th July, 2021 in Abuja, payed a courtesy visit to the wife of the Inspector General of Police, Hajiya Hajara Alkali to congratulate her as the present President of Nigerian Police Wives’ Association (POWA) and to Partner with her office in order to improve the welfare of Persons with Disabilities within the rank and files of the Nigerian Police Force.

In a press statement signed by the Head of Media and Publicity, NCPWD, Mbanefo John Micheal I, the ES in his remarks highlighted that education of officers who have served the country in different capacities and eventually lost parts of their bodies, or perhaps their sanity should be assisted to feel a sense of reciprocity from the State. He also mentioned that some of the officers could no longer cope with funding their children’s’ school fees.

Lalu, in addition lamented the discrimination against persons with disabilities in the society and disclosed that NCPWD is working assiduously to institutionalize a justice system to combat abuses on the community of PWDs. He said the litigation would be employed through the divisional Police Commands with focal officers at the State levels.

James lalu further stated that the myriads of challenges if not tackled properly, could hinder the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda of lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next 10 years or dampen the moral of serving officers.

Hajiya Alkali in her reaction showed extreme emotions at the presentation of the ES and gave her sincere promise to intimate the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr Usman Alkali Baba of the subtle appeal made by the commission.

The high point of the event was the presentation of the Prohibition Act (2019) against Persons with Disabilities to the POWA President.
