Cattle Dealers lament multiple taxation in Benue

The Acting President of Amalgamated Cattle Dealers Association of Nigeria Alhaji Yahuza Yusuf, has called on the Federal Government to intervene on their issues with the Benue state government and some groups of youth that are exonerating huge amounts of money in the name of revenue.

Yusuf made the call during his interview with Aljazirah Newspaper in Gombe noting that his members were forced to part with money in Alayedi Village in Benue state, while taking cows from North to Eastern part.

He disclosed that they were made to pay more as a revenue which totals over N300,000, stressing that the state constitutes major problem.

According him, whenever they passed Benue they would spend less, while inside Benue what they spent is not small.

Yusuf said, “We see Mr. President and all stakeholders responsible on the matter, and cattle dealers are still suffering after been paid multiple taxes, southerners are killing us for no reason.”

He added that just recently they lost nine of their members out of which seven of them are indigenes of Gombe, adding that one person from Adamawa and the other one from Jos, including many cows and goats burnt, in Aba Cattle market.

The Acting President lauded the Abia state government for shouldering the responsibility of paying the sum of N150,000 for each cow, and N50,000 for goats, stressing that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu also promised to support families of deceased persons with the sum of two million naira each to settle but the 2 million naira which are still pending.
