It was all fun at Millennium park Abuja on Saturday, 14th December, 2019 as Deaf Women Association of Nigeria (DWAN) FCT Chapter partied in grand style to end their activities for the year. The event which was well attended by deaf women and deaf men including their guest and partners.
There were notable faces in the deaf community like National president of DWAN, Beyioku-Alase(Mama Deaf), Lawrence Idemudia, Ephraim Omoregie, President, Abuja Association of the Deaf(AAD) among others.
Friends and Partners at the event were Agbo Chris Obiora, the publisher, The Qualitative magazine, Aleshinloye Ibukun, Damian Ivom from Albino Foundation among others.
The Chairlady Helen Beyioku-Alase speaking at the event said that the party was part of the awareness week after a week long of activities, it is time to party because all work no play makes Jack a dull boy. She also said that it is an opportunity to show people that the deaf women can have fun, laugh and play.
Speaking further, she appreciated the National President and the founder of Deaf Women Association of Nigeria (DWAN) for leaving her busy schedule and come all the way from Lagos to be DWAN FCT. She also appreciated the presence of ONTV, The Qualitative Magazine and Abuja Association of the Deaf.
The event witnessed activities such as motivational speeches from a guest, goodwill messages/words of advice from The National President of DWAN, Lawrence Idemudia, A.T.M, Ephraim Omoregie(the President of AAD) and Agbo Chris Obiora. Other activities at the event were dance, games such as Bag race, Egg race, fashion parade and beauty contest.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of award to the immediate past Country Director Ipas Barr. Shekarau for promoting the inclusion of the Deaf women during her time at IPAS.
Qualitative Magazine learnt that Barr. Hauwa Shekarau was instrumental to IPAS partnership with DWAN FCT in the area Sexual Reproductive Health to ensure the inclusion of the deaf women in health services.
Barr. Shekarau appreciated the DWAN, pray for God’s blessing as she commended their brand of advocacy and pledge to continue advocating alongside persons with disabilities. Speaking further, she said that even though she has left IPAS, she is still in the development sector and her newly formed NGO, Women Law and Development initiative main focus is inclusion so she assured that she will continue to work with DWAN.
