Presidency Takes Firm Stand Against Disability Discrimination Incident at KFC

The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, led by Comrade Mohammed Abba Isa, has expressed strong condemnation and deep concern regarding a discriminatory incident that occurred on March 27, 2024, at a KFC restaurant situated within the departure hall of Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos S
Mr. Debola Daniel, a wheelchair user, found himself unjustly denied access to the lounge area of the KFC establishment. Such discriminatory behavior is deemed intolerable by the Presidential office, as it flagrantly violates the fundamental rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities.

In a statement issued by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, a firm commitment was made to uphold the rights of all citizens, particularly those with disabilities. The presidency stands in unwavering solidarity with Mr. Debola Daniel and all individuals subjected to similar acts of prejudice and injustice.

The statement emphasized the office’s determination to pursue this matter vigorously until justice is served and corrective measures are implemented. Moreover, a letter has been dispatched to KFC demanding a public apology to be published in national dailies for their discriminatory conduct. Failure to comply with this demand will prompt serious action from the office of the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Presidential office underscores that discrimination against persons with disabilities has no place in Nigerian society and calls upon all stakeholders to unite in ensuring equal access and opportunities for all citizens. It is imperative that concerted efforts are made to foster a more inclusive and equitable Nigeria.

The stance taken by the Presidency sends a clear message that discriminatory practices will not be tolerated, and measures will be taken to address such incidents swiftly and decisively. As the nation strives towards greater inclusivity and equality, it is imperative that all sectors of society join hands in eliminating discrimination and upholding the rights and dignity of every individual, regardless of disability status.
