Blind Association Calls On Banking Sector To Review Discriminatory Policies Against PWDs

The Nigeria Association of the Blind (NAB) National President, Stanley Onyebuchi has called on Banking Sector to review their discriminatory policies against persons with disabilities(PWDs).

He made this call on Wednesday in Abuja during the Opening Ceremony Of the Ongoing NAB Youths North Central Zone Conference 2023.

According to Comrade Stanley, the banking sector should stop their discrimination against persons with disabilities especially the blind because some of their policies are discriminatory against PWDs for example, some banks are not accepting thumbprint as a signature which is the only means of signing a document by a blind person. A blind person can’t hold a pen and see where he is signing.

Speaking further, he also said that some bank halls are not accessible for wheelchair and crutches users so these our brothers and sisters on wheelchair can’t even access the banking halls.

“ATM machines are not accessible and some banks are not issuing ATM cards to the blind customers thereby making things difficult for them to have access to their money during weekends when the banks are not operational.

He called on the media to assist persons with disabilities to hold the banks accountable in ensuring that they make their banking halls accessible and review all their discriminatory policies.
