The National Commission for Persons With Disabilities with the able leadership of the Executive Secretary, Mr. James David Lalu has restated its commitment to protecting the fundamental rights of Persons With Disabilities.
The ES gave this assurance while hosting a delegation of the Amnesty International today 8th September, 2022 in his office. Lalu applauded the firebrand of officers representing the Organization and expressed confidence in their capacity.
The Executive Secretary also hinted on the Commission’s understanding with the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp, and the Legal Aid Council in the protection of the rights of Persons With Disabilities.
Speaking further, the ES briefed the meeting of the unpalatable experience children with disabilities experience even within their family circuit.

Mr. Lalu further in his remarks, informed the visitors of the recent application invented for tracking cases of abuse on persons with disabilities in any part of the country.
Recounting some of the achievements of the Commission, the ES mentioned Abia, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Yobe, Niger, Borno ,Ekiti among others as States that have domesticated the disability Rights law in their respective States.
In an elated mood, the leader of the delegation, Amnesty International, Mrs. Cecilia Aransiola expressed gratitude on behalf of the Organization for the good reports emanating from the Commission.
According to her, “this factor has propelled our willingness to partner with NCPWD in order to strengthen the legal cover on PWDs.
She highlighted the Organization’s mandate being a research and advocacy centre of about 10 million persons championing the protection of human rights globally.
“The African Charter on the Right of Persons With Disabilities is very explicit about the consequences of abuses on PWDs and that is why we are proposing a death sentence of such defaulters,” she underpinned.
