Disability Advocacy Produces Results keep at it and don’t be discouraged
In the month of march, BOLD HEARTS NETWORK (Network of Beautiful Outstanding Ladies with Disabilities), were invited to Participate in a “Capacity building workshop for Religious leaders on risks and vulnerabilities of people on the move (migrants /IDP’s).
In response to the Invitation and the interest in moving beyond Disability specific spaces to promote inclusion and integration, they sent two of their BOLD Hearts to Participate, “BOLD” Aver and Hanny.
The workshop was good and the hotel absolutely gorgeous, with amazing service, organic meals, fantastic lodging and training facilities.
However, what was striking, especially for their special ladies and later to all, was the inaccessibility of the venue (steps & rough grounds).
Rather than get frustrated, this became an Advocacy Opportunity, to promote accessibility.
One Month later with support and sustained advocacy together with organisers and other key Participants at the workshop like Mr. Mike Idah, it was amazing to receive these photos from the owner of the hotel in Jos, showing the changes that have been made, in just a month.
HBC RESORT, Vom road, Jos, Plateau State is now a very accessible hotel for ALL including Persons with Disabilities.
It doesn’t take much to become inclusive, make your space ACCESSIBLE, practice INCLUSION. YOU and I are involved. Freky Andrew-Essien, founder, BOLD Heart Network.
