Persons with Disabilities in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday, presented a proposal for amendment of twenty sections in the party Constitution.
Representative of Special People in the APC Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Dr James David Lalu, said the position paper was to guarantee effective inclusion and integration of Persons with Disabilities in the party.
Dr Lalu, who presented the demand of the PWDs to Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, Professor Tahir Mamman, said the position paper was the product of a two-day strategy workshop held last year by leaders from across the country to examine the participation of persons with disabilities in the party organs and electoral processes.
He said: “The workshop with participants including the former APC National Disabled Leader, Misbahu Lawan Didi, Senior Special Disability Matters, Dr Samuel Ankeli, zonal persons with disabilities leaders and other stakeholders discussed barriers to the inclusion and integration of persons with disabilities in the party and developed twenty recommendations for amendment in the party constitution to improve the effective participation of persons with disabilities in the party.”
In his response, Professor Mamman assured them that his Committee will look into the areas raised.
Mamman noted that President Muhammadu Buhari special interest in the PWDs informed the establishment of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities.
He said his Committee will consider clause by clause every issue raised in the paper presented.
The Women and Youths wings of the party equally presented position papers to the Committee.
