White Cane Safety Day: Gov. Soludo’s Pledges Commitment To Accessible Environment for PWDs, ASDRC Donates White Canes To Blind Community

The Chairman of the Anambra State Disability Rights Commission, Bar Chuks Ezewuzie, has delivered cane guards to visually impaired individuals who gathered at St. Patrick Cathedral Hall to celebrate 2023 White Cane Awareness Day. He expressed the government’s commitment to creating a prosperous and accessible environment for people with disabilities in Anambra State.

Bar Ezewuzie acknowledged Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the governor, for celebrating the event with the state’s blind community, and thanked the governor for budgeting funds for this year’s celebration. He also promised that next year’s celebration will be better.

White Cane Awareness Day is observed on October 15th every year to raise awareness about the importance of the white cane as a symbol of independence and mobility for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

It aims to promote understanding and respect for individuals who use white canes for navigation and to advocate for their rights and inclusion in society.

Lady Pat Okeke and Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke who are both ASDRC commission members graced the occasion.
