VDI launches project to reduce GBV against WGWDs in Enugu State

In order to reduce Gender Based Violence and Sexual and Reproductive Health Right for women and girls with disabilities in Enugu state.

Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI) organized a one day launch and sensitization workshop in the state on April 6th, 2022.

The event is part of VDI project being implemented by Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI) with support from National Democratic Institute (NDI), Washington Office.

The Executive Director of VDI, Barr. Catherine Edeh in her opening speech stated said that the launch was to introduce the project to the disability community and the general public in the state, especially women and girls with disabilities.

Speaking further she said that the activity was also to ensure that the disability community claim ownership of the project and ensure its sustainability at the end of the project duration.

“The workshop was equally aimed at sensitizing women and girls with disabilities on how to prevent Gender Based Violence (GBV) and improve access to their sexual and reproductive health rights” she added.

The dignitaries at event were Commissioner for Justice, Enugu state ably represented by Barr. Perpetual Okpara; National Human Rights Commission, Barr. Chidimma Ugwu; National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Barr. Nneka Ajie; Enugu State Chairman of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Barr. Gabriel Nnamani; Heroine Women Foundation, Mrs. Onyinye Mamah; and Women Info Network, Mrs. Joy Okeke.

TQM reports that Presentations were done on the Provisions of Disability Act, Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and Prevention of Gender Based Violence by resource persons after the launch of the programme.
