Stakeholders Validate The Abridged Versions (Pidgin And Igbo) Of Anambra State Disability Rights Law

The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Anambra State Chapter on Wednesday 20th October  at Choice Hotel Awka held a validation meeting with Stakeholders on Abridged Version (Pidgin and Igbo) of Anambra State Disability  Right Law.

Delivering his address of welcome, the Chairman of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) Anambra Chapter Comrade Ugochukwu Ernest Okeke said that  the translation is part of the activities structured in third phase of the project sponsored by the Rule of Law and Anti- Corruption (RoLAC) Program  funded by the European Union and Implemented by the British Council which geared towards Awareness Creation on the Provisions of the Anambra  State Disability Right Law 2018) being executed by JONAPWD Anambra State. He explained that the validation meeting was necessitated  in order to review and adopt the translation in Pidgin and Igbo version of Anambra Disability Right Law 2018, increasing public/stakeholder’s knowledge on the provision of the law through handy and simplified volumes of the law and increasing the awareness spread of the law and its provision all  serve  as vital reasons for the meeting.

Mr Ugochukwu  Okeke noted that some many success stories had been recorded in the pass three years through RoLAC sponsored projects for JONAPWD and appreciated them immensely.

State Coordinator for Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption( RoLAC) in Anambra State,Mrs Josephine Ona while delivering her goodwill message expressed joy that the Anambra State Disability Right Law present in the state avails  the legal framework for things to be put in place as regards to rights and level of inclusiveness for PWDs. She noted the implementation of this Law can’t not be achieved once and called for continuous popularization of this law until such a time that everyone will be on same page with the content of the Law. She noted that RoLAC has come to support  the communication, sensitization and awareness creation aspects as well as the understanding and compliance of this law. She stated that RoLAC has identified the need to simply this law in a way those in the hither-land can understand and hence the reason for this meeting. Mrs Onah called on all participants to contribute effectively towards the popularization of this law and appreciated JONAPWD Anambra as an umbrella body working  for the Disability Community in the state.

Stating the objectives for the validation meeting His Honor, PrinceWill C.Iwuafor(ESQ.) President Customary Court noted that it is expected of the Stakeholders to give an overview of the Abridged Version (Pidgin and Igbo ) of Anambra State Disability Right Law, noting points that needs to be corrected or changed and as well giving an approval for the final compilation of these abridged version. He also noted that essence of making an abridged version is to further simplify the Disability Right Law in a way a lame man can easily understand and assimilate.

Breakout sessions for group review of the Draft Igbo and Pidgin were established while groups after a thorough deliberations came up with typography corrections, terminologies  used, omissions on some sections of the law and recommendations as stated and cited  in the Anambra State Disability Right Law 2018.

Representatives of various MDAs, CSOs,Media Personnels ,Heads of Disability Custers ,and selected members of Jonapwd attended this event.
