The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr. James David Lalu
In commemoration of the 2023 World Refugee day, the Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr James David Lalu has reiterated that Persons With Disabilities deserve special recognition for the courage and resilience they put up at the aftermath of their experiences from war and violence are the real champions!
He made this assertion today 20th June, 2023 during his goodwill message to mark this year’s World Refugee day at the ECOWAS building, Abuja.
“We must begin to look inwards and recognize those victims of violence and war ravaged zones who eventually suffered disabilities resulting from landmines, and gun shots,” he said.
In press statement signed by Mbanefo JohnMichaels I, Press and Public Relations Unit, NCPWD, Lalu lamented that Persons with Disabilities are usually helpless in such precarious situations and are only left to fate in the face of adversities.
“When terrorists attack, invade homes and camps, it is the visually impaired, those with hearing difficulties and wheelchair users that are compelled to scamper for safety and most times get unlucky, the ES informed.
The Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugee and Migration, Ms Imaan Sulaiman- Ibrahim in her remarks stated that this year’s theme which is “Hope away from Home” is apt and coincides with the Renewed Hope agenda of the new administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“We are optimistic that the inclusion of Refugees across the country will spring a new hope of better life for displaced persons and refugees all over Nigeria” she underpinned.
She equally seized the occasion to appreciate the United Nations Refugees Agency and the Global Refugee Fund for giving relief to the refugee community.
