The Network of Disabled Women (NDW) after initiating and establishing a leadership club for young girls with disabilities in Government Secondary School, Kuje, Abuja on 12th of October, 2021, took the tour to Safehost International Academy to establish another leadership club.
The group is expected to visit more schools to establish the club in continuation of the project.
The President of NDW, Lois Auta Udonkanta while addressing a total number of 33 girls aged between 3 to 15 years said that the objectives of the leadership club were to motivate, impact and influence Young Girls with Disabilities on the need for leadership while guiding them on the decision making process and nurturing positive attitudinal changes among them.
She went further to encourage the young girls to have positive mindsets on becoming great change makers, saying that age is not a barrier to improving themselves and urged them to be an example to other girls and also help to improve disability inclusion.
Mrs. Ngozi Belolisa, the owner of the school, described as an inclusive school which provide the learning environment for all children irrespective of the challenges and they are also rehabilitating children with disabilities.
The girls declared their readiness and eagerness to take more responsibility in decision making and to drive the goal of the project by committing to effecting change.
The name chosen for the club was ‘Get It Right Leaders’ (GIRL) Club, it was inaugurated and GIRL is expected to offer Young Girls the opportunity to speak about their challenges with guidance and supervision offered by NDW team regularly to ensure its sustainability and encourage more participation of Young Girls with Disabilities in Leadership.
