To achieve its statutory mandate in collecting, analyzing and disseminating demographic data for Persons with Disabilities, the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) partners with the National Population Commission (NPC) to derive accurate data of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria.
The partnership was sealed recently in Abuja during a courtesy visit of the Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Mr James David Lalu to the National Population Commission’s headquarters, Abuja.
In his opening address Mr Lalu éxpressed his gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari whom he described as the father of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria for signing the discrimination Act into law, a part no other Nigerian Leader before him was willing to tow.
In a statement signed by the head of media and publicity, NCPWD, Mbanefo JohnMicheal I, the ES added that it is on that ground that NCPWD sought for partnership with the Population Commission as they prepare for another round of census in Nigeria.
” We are tired of the estimated figures, rather the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities is ready to work with the National Population Commission in order to get the accurate data, number of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria” he Said.
Lalu further stated that the partnership with the Population Commission will further strengthen the inclusiveness of PWDs in the scheme of things.
In his response, the Chairman National Population Commission, Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, commended the ES for his passion and readiness in keeping PWDs on the map and making them relevant in the society.
The Chairman assures the ES that the National Population Commission is willing to collaborate with the Disabilities’ Commission by making sure that every Commissioner engages PWDs in all state offices.
