The Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) has urged governments at all levels to appoint People living With Disabilities (PWDs) into ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs). Samuel Sanusi, general secretary and chief executive officer of BSN, made the demand over the weekend when the organisation donated 10 sets of braille bibles to the National Braille Press (NBP) library in Lagos.
“I also want to lend our voices to the recent call by the Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) and the European Union Support for Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EUSDG), to ask governments at all levels to consider appointing people with disabilities into positions across the country,” he said.
He said that many PWDs are eminently qualified for several positions in government, adding that excluding them is unfair and unjust.
“This is part of the ways to form an inclusive government and make them have a sense of belonging,” Sanusi said.
The BSN boss also called on well-meaning Nigerians and governments to donate braille materials to the NBP.
Abiodun Osifoluke, head of NBP, thanked BSN for the donation. She said she was posted to the NBP two years ago and that everyone at the organisation has been putting in the work to achieve set goals.
