Justice for Mmaduabuchi Nnofu: Magistrate Court lacks jurisdiction, Case file transferred to Attorney General for advice

On Thursday 24th February, 2022, Joint National Association of Persons with disabilities (JONAPWD) Anambra State Chapter were in Ekwulobia Magistrate court over the case of late Mmaduabuchi Nnofu, a visually impaired man killed by his younger brother.

In a report sent to TQM signed by the Public Relations Officer, JONAPWD Anambra State, Ifeanyi Igwegbe, after the charges were read to the defendant, no plea was taken because the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case, rather the case file was transferred to the Attorney general of the state for an advice.

So it is expected that the case will be transferred to High Court for prosecution. The only question that was asked by the court to the defendant was, are you sane as at the time you performed the act? which he answered yes.

Five persons were listed as the Witnesses in the matter, which include his mother, brother, sister, a police officer, and a medical doctor that conducted the autopsy.

Finally the case was adjourned to 12 April 2022 for continuation.

There was a large number of JONAPWD members who were in attendance.

Comr. Ugochukwu Okeke thanked all members of JONAPWD who attended, especially JONAPWD Exco, NAB Reps who came all the way from Awka and members of Aguata chapter of JONAPWD.
