Inclusive Friends Association Urges Benue State to Domesticate Disability Bill for Inclusive Progress

In a resounding call for action, the Inclusive Friends Association (IFA) is urging the Benue State government to embrace the Disability Bill, emphasizing the critical role it plays in championing the cause of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).

During a dynamic one-day workshop held in the heart of Makurdi, Benue State, Grace Jerry, the Executive Director of IFA, passionately expressed the need for the state to adopt the Disability Bill to propel the rights and inclusivity of PWDs to the forefront.

Represented by the dedicated Director of Programmes at IFA, Joshua Ardo, Jerry stressed the importance of collective action and determination in realizing the transformative goals outlined in the Disability Bill.

Highlighting success stories from other regions, Jerry pointed out that the establishment of a disability commission in Abia State, spurred by collective advocacy efforts, has become a beacon of inspiration for states like Adamawa, Gombe, and Taraba.

“Benue State, with its unique strengths and characteristics, has the opportunity to become a trailblazer in the advancement of disability rights,” she affirmed, urging stakeholders to unite for a common cause.

Stephen Idoko, the Programme Manager of IFA, further fueled motivation among participants by encouraging them to draw inspiration from the tangible achievements recorded by IFA. He emphasized the potential impact of their collective efforts on shaping inclusive policies that resonate with the diverse needs of the community.

In a warm welcome address, Ben Anshe, the Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons With Disability (JONAPWD) in the Benue chapter, earnestly solicited partnership and cooperation. This collaborative spirit, he believes, is integral to the success of the initiative, ensuring that the Disability Bill becomes a catalyst for positive change in the state.

As the call for the adoption of the Disability Bill echoes in Makurdi, Benue State, it signals a rallying cry for inclusivity, collective empowerment, and the realization of a more accessible and equitable future for Persons With Disabilities. Let us join hands to champion this cause and pave the way for Benue State to shine as a beacon of inclusiveness and progress.
