IDPD 2023: SFHF Advocates for More Stakeholders’ efforts Towards Disability Inclusion In Nigeria

Sustainable Family Healthcare Foundation (SFHF) has called on Stakeholders to do more towards Disability Inclusion In Nigeria

The Executive Director, SFHF, Mrs Peters Ogumayi made this call during the commemoration of International Day For Persons With Disabilities 2023 by the foundation on 19th January, 2024 In Abuja.

Mrs Peters while addressing the participants said that disability inclusion should be taken more seriously and there is need for Stakeholders to have better understanding of their roles and responsibilities and ensure that they are doing their best towards inclusion of PWDs.

As the theme of 2023 IDPD 2023 implied “United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities, she said that SDGs that directly affected PWDs should be at the front burner and there should be effort to ensure that by 2035, Nigeria will be proud that they achieved the goals because the goals can’t be achieved without inclusion of PWDs.

She expressed gratitude to CBM Global for their support for the event and also their support for the ongoing project of SFHF in FCT, Zamfara and Kano.

She informed that the idea of this event is to get PWDs celebrate, reflect on this burning issues and call for action towards addressing them.

She reassured PWDs of the working relationship of SFHF and them, promising to continue discharging all their projects putting Disability Inclusion first.

She informed that SFHF will start Accessibility Check At Some Health facilities within the coverage of their project.

In a similar vein, the Executive Director, The Qualitative Magazine, Comrade Chris Agbo commended SFHF for their passionate way of executing their projects focusing on persons with disabilities. He urged Stakeholders to work together to promote disability inclusion in Nigeria.

He promised to work with SFHF in the area of awareness creation on radio and online publishing.

The Chairman, Joint National Association Of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) FCT while appreciating SFHF for all their milestones in the lives of persons with disabilities especially in the FCT, said that PWDs are ready to always partner with SFHF or any other organization to better the lives of PWDs in FCT.

The Women Leader, JONAPWD FCT, Ambassador Beatrice Mube eulogized the Passion and Steadfast of The Executive Director Of SFHF.

She described her as selfless leader who can go extra mile to assist and carry other people’s burdens.

“SFHF is a home for PWDs, I will rate them 90percent on disability inclusion, they are one of the most inclusive organization, they have touched over 300 lives of Women With Disabilities of productive age. I have not seen where a woman will go for antenatal and her transport fare will be taken care of. I have not seen where a man will impregnate a woman and another woman will take the full responsibility of providing for the woman until child birth”.

She also informed that SFHF has done so much in the area of women who gave birth through CS and those with obstetrics fistula.

“There is a woman who suffered from fistula for 22 years, her marriage ended. SFHF were able to fix her through the link of Brekete Family radio. She later got award from Brekete Family.

Other Stakeholders represented at the event are Federal Ministry Of Health, Other CSOs and representatives from the community where SFHF project is taking place.

The highpoint of the event was the panel session moderated by Beatrice Mube and the panelists were Obinna Ekujereonye, Executive Director, Disability Advancement Initiative DAI, Comrade Chris Agbo, Executive Director, The Qualitative Magazine (TOM), Aver Akighir, Executive Director, Hope Alive Possibilities Initiative (HAPI) and Favour Adjara.

The topic on the Sustainable Development Goals as it affects persons with disabilities in Nigeria.
