IDPD 2023: CCD Calls On All Stakeholders To Amplify Voices Of PWDs

Centre For Citizens With Disabilities (CCD) in commemoration of International Day For Persons With Disabilities (IDPD) has called on the public to amplify the voices of persons with disabilities.

In a press statement signed by the Interim Head, CCD, Florence Austin, International Day for Persons With Disabilities 2023 with theme: “United in Action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with, and by persons with disabilities” is a globally observance that emphasizes the collective effort required to ensure inclusivity and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

“The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serve as a blueprint for a more sustainable and equitable future”.

“This year’s theme underscores the pivotal role persons with disabilities play in realizing these goals”.

She noted that “By fostering unity and collaboration, we aim to break down barriers, promote accessibility, and create an environment where everyone can actively contribute to building a better world”.

She also said that “As we celebrate diversity, we recognize the unique strengths and perspectives that persons with disabilities bring to our communities. It is imperative that we work hand in hand to eliminate discrimination, enhance accessibility, and empower individuals with disabilities to fully participate in all aspects of life”.

She further said that IDPD is observed globally on December 3rd each year. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development and to increase awareness of the challenges they face. The day also seeks to highlight the importance of creating an inclusive and accessible world for all.

She hinted that the day would be occupied with series of events, discussions, and initiatives which will highlight the importance of inclusivity and showcase successful endeavors that exemplify the theme.

“From advocating for policy changes to implementing accessible technologies, the International Day for Persons with Disabilities serves as a platform to amplify the voices of those who have often been marginalized” she added.

She called on the public to hands in promoting a world where every person, regardless of ability, can thrive.

“By standing united in action, we can truly rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with, and by persons with disabilities”.
