I find it difficult to marry because my legs, hands and small stature put women off from me— Luka Alamba, a man with little stature laments

Luka Alamba is a person of little stature and also a person with physically disability from Riyom local government of Plateau state. He was born with these multiple disabilities and do experience frequent sickness even from infancy to my adulthood. This made his parents to spent a lot of money searching for a better and stable health condition for him.

Our correspondents Bulus Bala and Joshua Yenle came across him in Riyom and he shared with them his challenges as a person with disability.

TQM. Were your parents able to send you to school?

Ans. yes.

TQM. What are the names of schools you attended?

Ans. I only completed primary school.

TQM. What is the name of the primary school?

Ans. I attended COCIN Private Primary School Riyom, in Riyom local government.

TQM. Why did you not go beyond primary School?

Ans. Because in the past, I don’t have a mobility aid and due to my nature and disability, I cannot walk for far distances. When I tried to trek , I fell severally on the way.

TQM. Now that you have walking aid, are you considering going back to secondary school?

Ans. No. I am about thirty years old and I need to be doing something to support myself. 

 TQM. Do you have something that you are doing for a living?

Ans. I do charged phones for people

TQM. How did you come about doing this business?

Ans. A man gave me money which I started the business with it.

TQM. Apart from the business of charging phone, do you do anything else?

Ans. I have a farm that I pay people to cultivate for me.

TQM. Is Mr. Luka married?

Ans. No. I am not. Each time, I go to girls, they don’t want to be with me because of my disability. My small stature and my legs and hands puts them off.

TQM. Apart from the discrimination from some girls, what is the situation like among other members of community and in your family circle?

Ans. My family members don’t discriminate against me so also other members of my community, with the exception of some girls that don’t want to have a relationship with me.

TQM. Would you say then, that your community have been supportive?

Ans. Yes, one of them gave me money to start a business, and I am very grateful for that. However, there is room for them to give me more support.

TQM. In what areas will you need more support?

Ans. I need more support in my business. I need generator for the charging of phones when there is no electricity supply and in the area of my farm, I need fertilizers.
