First Lady of Akwa Ibom State Hosts Successful Event to Empower Persons with Disabilities

In a remarkable display of compassion and inclusivity, the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Patience Umo Eno, in collaboration with the Golden Initiative For All (GIFA) and Mkpat Enin transition Chairman, Honorable Mercy Bassey, orchestrated an event that left a lasting impact on the lives of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the community.

Themed “Enabling the Disabled,” the event held at the Ekong Sampson Unity Hall in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, was nothing short of a resounding success. It served as a platform for the distribution of various mobility aids, food commodities, power supply equipment, start-up grants, and other essential items to PWDs, signifying a significant step towards their empowerment and support.

Honorable Mercy Bassey, the transition Chairman, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Pastor Umo Eno for his unwavering commitment to inclusive governance and his steadfast support for persons with disabilities. She highlighted the government’s array of interventions and initiatives aimed at enhancing the political, educational, and overall welfare of PWDs in the state, underscoring the administration’s dedication to fostering inclusivity at all levels.

Mrs. Nnene Bassey, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability, commended the Governor for his visionary leadership and urged PWDs in Mkpat Enin to capitalize on the opportunities available to them. She encouraged them to actively participate in agribusiness practices, become integral members of society, and engage in the upcoming Local Government Chapter elections with integrity and transparency.

Moreover, Mrs. Bassey emphasized the importance of leveraging the empowerment platforms provided by Honorable Mercy Bassey and GIFA to enhance entrepreneurial skills and improve livelihoods among PWDs. She urged the beneficiaries to utilize the resources received effectively and expressed optimism for continued blessings and protection for the state’s leaders.
