FAECARE Foundation, Kapa Train Women with Disabilities in Fashion Industry on Fabric Design

FAECARE Foundation in partnership with Kapa by Ibiso Edward held a 3-days short course on fabric design (Tie and Dye, Batik) for woman with disabilities in fashion in Rivers state.

The aim of the training and focus on women with disabilities was to enhance the productivity of women with disabilities already in the fashion industry.

The Executive Director of FAECARE Foundation, Ndifreke Andrew-Essien in her opening remarks stated the importance of the need for one to continue to improve on basic skills and the need to add to skills that one may already have in any sector or industry of choice.

She encouraged the women to remain focused in what they do and avoid easy distractions that come in the form of hand-outs that do not last. She reminded them that even though this was just a short course, it was important for the women to take the basics learnt and build on it by practicing and being creative. She ended her session by asking the ladies to begin to think about what they would do with the new skill they learnt.

The short course with trainer, Ibiso Edwards of Kapa, had theory and practical sessions on fabric design and the business of fabric design. It was particularly exciting to see the designs of the different groups of women come to life.

At the end of the three days, the women shared their action plans for the skills learnt and how they intended to incorporate it into their exciting businesses.

To support the women, FAECARE Foundation gave the top three participants start up kits to produce their own fabrics and the top student also received a boost of her social media fashion page.

FAECARE Foundation will continue to empower persons with disabilities
