ES, NCPWD, James Lalu visits FCT Minister, seeks feasible alliance and accessible infrastructures for PWDs

TQM report,

In his usual bid to negotiate inclusive measures, ease of access and conceivable undemanding livelihood for Persons With Disablities, the Executive Secretary National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Mr James David Lalu recently payed a courtesy visit to the Hon. Minister Federal Capital Territory Administrtion Mallam Muhammed Musa Bello. The visit was strategically scheduled in order to seek a plausible partnership with the Ministry of federal Capital Territory Administration.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary opined that as part of Federal government establishments and as the Ministry in-charge of the Federal Capital Territory, there’s an urgent need for the FCT Administration to emulate President Buhari’s exemplary leadership and domesticate the 2018 Prohibition Act which prohibits unfair treatments of PWDs.

“The Domestication of the Act will make Abuja an inclusive city for PWDs” he said.

While applauding the commendable road networks of the Capital territory, the ES subtly alerted the Hon. Minister on the need to check the irregularities which have hampered the user-friendlines of the roads for Pedestrians, especially Persons With Disabilities. James Lalu cited that there are road blocks and manholes by the Sidewalks which impede the movements of PWDs on wheelchair as well as the blind.

In the same vein, the Es said most of the public buildings do not have the minimum accessibility requirements for ease of transportation for persons with Disabilities.

In a press statement signed by Mbanefo JohnMicheal, I, the head of media and publicity, NCPWD, the ES further seized the occasion to inform the Minister of the Commission’s efforts to provide affordable homes for Persons With Disabilities in the FCT. He recalled his visit to Federal Housing Authority and the Federal Mortgage Bank where he was introduced to special schemes in home ownership developed by the Federal Government.

Lalu also hinted that the Commission is yet to secure land for the construction of a suitable office building that will accommodate over 200 staff and also serve as model for public buildings in and out of Abuja.

In a quick response, the Minster of FCT, Mallam Mohammed Musa Bello appreciated the ES for coming out to express concerns about the state of infrastructure in the FCT. He mentioned that the FCTA is working tirelessly to transform Abuja into a model city that will factor-in Persons With Disabilities.

He therefore advised the Commission to constantly liaise with the Social Development secretariat from time to time for some of its needs.

Mallam Bello later gave the assurance of doing all within his powers to assist the Commission to achieve most of the demands.
