The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Mr James David Lalu recently received a delegation from SUN-TECH prosthetics and orthotics (A company with experts on unique approach in the field of prosthetics, orthotics and artificial robotics ) in his office to discuss modalities on how to produce customized prosthetics, orthotics for the physically challenged.
In a press release signed by Mbanefo JohnMichael I, the head of Media and Publicity NCPWD, Mr Lalu commended the organization for the show of passion to providing support to PWDs .
While addressing the meeting, the ES seized the occasion to recount his recent encounter with a bilateral amputee PWD at the National hospital, Abuja. He said her case was pathetic and this prompted him to offer an urgent intervention to bring succour to the woman.
“It is disheartening that there are over one million amputees across the States in Nigeria but we have very limited Assistive Devices to aid their mobility, “he said.
Meanwhile, the Commission’s pioneer CEO had earlier informed of NCPWD’s mandate to providing Assistive Devices to Persons with Disabilities.
He further promised that the Commission will do all it takes to partner other willful donors who wish to support government efforts to meet the growing needs for Assistive Devices across board.
In an excited mood, the Founder/Chairman, SUN-TECH, Mr. Sunny Ukachukwu expressed gratitude to the ES for leading the community of over 30 million PWDs. He described him as a visionary leader genuinely committed to the course of Persons with Disabilities.
“I am highly impressed with your antecedents at the Commission since your appointment.
Ukachukwu also used the platform to invite the ES for a facility tour to the factory where the Assistive Devices are specially produced to suit everyone with the need.
“Our focus is not just making sales of the devices but, to manufacture Assistive Devices that will guarantee total comfort for the users “.
He further said he is proud to announce Miss Aver Akighir as the special Ambassador in the campaign.
