EMPOWERMENT: Isolo LCDA doles out mobility aids, welfare packages, medical equipment, educational materials to PWDs, the elderly and others

…as council boss, Otunba Adebayo Olasoju announced the appointment of Special Adviser on Disability Affairs

All roads today led to the premises of Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) where the council, in partnership with Bruderhilfe Social Development Initiative doled out empowerment and welfare packages for hundreds of residents across all social strata in the council area.

The event which had Otunba Olasoju and his Queeny wife, Mrs. Jumoke Olasoju receiving beneficiaries who were drawn from the various wards that make up the council area as Chief Host and Hostess respectively recorded a massive turnout despite the scorching sun.

The partnership according to the Executive Director of the Non-Governmental Organization, Mrs. Mary Oluwabamigbe Bruder became important to complement the council chairman Otunba Adebayo Olasoju’s encompassing developmental policy for the council area, especially in the area of socio-economic drive for the aged and persons with disabilities.

In his welcome address, Otunba Olasoju commended the NGO for finding the council area worthy of such partnership albeit his administration has been firing on all cylinders to reduce vulnerability among inhabitants. He continued that Isolo LCDA ranks first among the most hospitable and tolerant towards persons with disabilities (PWD) by boasting of an elected councilor from the category in the current legislative arm of government.

He added that another way his administration is pursuing its #IsoloOfOurDream agenda and ultimately raise the bar of all-inclusive governance is by putting in place sustainable policies that have so far been beneficial to all and sundry in the council area citing various empowerment programs for the youths and more that are in the offing, the monthly care for the elderly program for the aged among others.

He continued saying that his administration’s door remains widely opened to local and international NGOs who are willing to partner with the government on continuous infrastructure advancement and human-capital development for the residents.

His word: “Our partnership with Bruderhilfe today is satisfying because it shows that our administration’s giants stride on all developmental fronts are being noticed outside our council and across the globe because we were able to attract this partnership to ourselves by way of our numerous programs and projects that have been vital to the socio-economic growth of our people. You will observe that our administration has been taking human-capital development with a high sense of responsibility and it’s just encouraging that our efforts are being complemented by an international NGO like Bruderhilfe.”

The Executive Director of the Non-Governmental Organization, Mrs. Mary Oluwabamigbe Bruder averred that the impetus behind the partnership was the council chairman’s giant strides and structures to enable swift execution of a project like that adding that the partnership with the council area will not be a one-off project as her NGO is committed to deepening its social-economic program to meets the need of the youths, women, elderly and less privileged in the area of health, education in urban as well as under-developed parts of the nation. She promised the youths more capacity-building programs as the NGO will soon partner with the council to undertake one.

Some of the items distributed include Mobility Carts, Wheelchairs, Crutches, food items for the aged; 70 and above, clothing and baby needs for expectant mothers among others.

Another high point of the event was the appointment of a Special Adviser to the council chairman on Physically-Challenged Affairs – Mr. Olushola Abiodun Emmanuel whose appointment was announced by the council chairman, Otunba Adebayo Olasoju in the course of the event.

Earlier in her terse address, First Lady Mrs. Olajumoke Olasoju charged the beneficiaries, especially the physically-challenged to make the most of the items by not only making themselves mobile but also employable to further dignify and improve their living condition.

Delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the over 100 beneficiaries, Mr. Taiwo Modiu AKA Johnpology thanked Otunba Olasoju and Bruderhilfe for going out their ways to cushion the effects of mobility challenges for him and others noting that the items will not only enhance their living condition but also accord them a greater sense of belonging in the society.

Among the top dignitaries who witnessed the event were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Shakir Adeola Sadiq, Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi Alarape, the Deputy Leader, Hon. Kanayo Osondu, the Majority Leader; Hon. Abisodun Odusina-Adeoye, the Deputy Majority Leader Hon. Idris Amusa, the councilor representing Apena Ward, Hon. Yusuf Agbabiaka, Former Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Local Government Affairs, Mrs. Regina Iyabo Obasa, the Council-Manager; Mr. Samson Akinbami, the Council Treasurer; Dr. Adekoya, the Chairman Community Development Committee (CDC) Hon. Adesegun Olatunde ably represented by the first Vice-Chairman; Alhaji S.A Ramoni, the coordinator and other executive members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Isolo Local Chapter among others.
