Ekiti Decides: IFA engages State CP to improve security of PWDs during elections

Inclusive Friends Association (IFA) through their Campaign for inclusive elections known as Access Nigeria Campaign paid an advocacy visit to the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police.

The team was received by the Deputy Commissioner of Police Ayuba Babangida (DCP) and the visit is to engage the security agencies in order to draw their attention to the security needs of persons with disabilities in the off-cycle gubernatorial election in Ekiti State.

The Executive Director, IFA and the convener of Access Nigeria Campaign, Grace Jerry, ably represented by Tracy Onabis presented the following, Training of security personnel on how to engage with PWDs, Prioritizing security provision for PWDs and the welfare of personnel to deter them from compromising and the possible ways of Police can collaborate with IFA.

The challenges of insecurity and election security can not be over-emphasized. The need for the Police to prioritize policing for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the planned election cannot be compromised. No doubt, the fear of insecurity over the years has increased voter apathy amongst the community of PWDs.
