DSDI urges Nigerians to Stop Discrimination Against People with disabilities

Nigerians have been advised to stop discrimination against people with disabilities in society.

Speaking at the 30 years anniversary of the Deaf Supporters Development Initiative (DSDI), in Lagos, the President of the Association, Mr. Afolabi Dahunsi pleaded with Nigerians to stop discrimination and show love to people with disabilities in Nigeria.

He said since 1991 when the association started till date it has been able to guide, help and nurture many poor deaf people to start small-scale businesses of their choice. DSDI has been advocating for promoting the rights of and advancing the interest of deaf people in Nigeria and beyond.

He explained that the initiative provides life skills, vocational skills training for school leavers and deaf job seekers coming to their office for guidance on how best to make good use of their life as DSDI also provides counselling to the deaf community.

Chairman Lagos State Association the Deaf (LSAD), Mr. Issah Ahmadu Usman, urged members of the society to continue to support the deaf community.

He explained that two Deaf persons of the opposite sex can get married and have normal children adding that the event was an opportunity for deaf people to make new friends especially younger ones who are yet married and engage in relationships that will lead to marriage.
