CAN Chairman, Governor’s Aide Collaborate to Promote Spiritual Rights of PWDs In Akwaibom State

In a significant move towards promoting inclusivity and advocating for the spiritual rights of persons with disabilities, the Chairman of the Christian Association (CAN) Chapter recently convened a robust meeting with the Special Assistant to the Governor on Persons with Disabilities in the state.

The meeting, which aimed to address discrimination and barriers faced by persons with disabilities in religious circles, marked a pivotal moment in the quest to create a more inclusive and accommodating religious community in the state. Key agenda items included tackling discrimination, attitudinal barriers, premises accessibility, and ensuring the participation of persons with disabilities in religious activities such as pilgrimage.

Under the leadership of Governor Pastor Umo Eno, the state government has consistently prioritized meeting the physical needs of all citizens, including persons with disabilities. The Governor’s steadfast commitment to inclusivity extends to religious communities, with a belief that every individual, regardless of their physical or mental abilities, is equal before the Creator and deserving of equal rights and opportunities.

During the meeting, the CAN Chairman expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for his administration’s recognition of persons with disabilities and commended the Governor’s aide on her appointment. He highlighted the importance of strengthening religious settings to accommodate persons with disabilities, acknowledging that a significant portion of them do not attend religious services due to perceived barriers and attitudes.

In response, the Governor’s aide thanked the CAN Chairman for the collaboration and underscored the importance of ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind in any aspect of society, including religious settings. She reiterated the Governor’s commitment to creating an inclusive community where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can fully participate and contribute.
