Attitude Of Our Leaders Towards PWDs Is Very Key, Says ES, NCPWD James Lalu

Dr. James David Lalu, Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities has reiterated that the attitude of leaders and citizens alike speaks volumes of the social equality of Persons With disabilities in Nigeria.

He made this disclosure today in Abuja while hosting a delegation from the Voice of Disability Initiative.

The ES in his welcome address, appreciated VDI for taking an interest in issues of disabilities to expand visibility of PWDs through “Amplified Change ” programmes.

He further explained that the challenges being faced by Persons With disabilities are as a result of reactions from highly placed persons in the society.

“I want to categorically state here today that the kind of treatment that Persons With Disabilities get are a product of character and attitude of leaders in the society”, he added.

He, however, promised that the Commission’s door is always open for collaborations and support in whatever capacity, to continually advance the course of Persons With Disabilities in the society.

He then mentioned the scholarship award to 30 students with Disabilities and hinted that the number will be expanded by 2024.

In a quick response, the chairman , Voice of Disability Initiative (VDI), Chike Uwaezuoke thanked the ES for his zeal and humility to serve the community of Persons With Disabilities.

He said the call is for everyone to come together and contribute their quota in order to have a truly inclusive society.

He, therefore, seized the occasion to Inform the meeting on the Stakeholders’ summit being organized by VDI in collaboration with Amplify change which is slated for 19th December, 2023 in Abuja.
