END OF THE YEAR GET-TOGETHER: PWDs preach Love, Unity among Calabar Communities

TQM report,

A socio-cultural and political organization, *“Nka Mbon Mkpö-Nnam Efik Eburutu* has urged leaders and youths of the three ethnic entities (Efik, Efut and Abakpa) in the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State to emphasise the need for love and unity amongst members as they consider various developmental options especially in this new year 2021.

At an end of year get-together of the organization held at Egerton Street, Calabar the group made up by mostly Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) reasoned that only a sense of love and unity of the three ethnic entities in the greater Calabar Communities of the Southern Senatorial District will guarantee speedy and even development of the area and the people.

Chairman of the event’s Planning Committee, Ekike (Comrade) Ekpenyong Esien Ekpenyong, who delivered the organization’s address, during the Get-together, stated that the people of Efik, Efut and Abakpa should take a cue from the organization whose members are united in love and social background and without consideration for tribe or religion.

Ekpenyong said there are many opportunities for empowerment and growth as provided by the government that lie fallow and untapped just as there are elusive because of lack of love and unity among our people.

He therefore urged that the people of the three groups should re-enact and strengthen the bond of love and unity that had hitherto existed amongst them while borrowing a leaf from the PwDs.

The group praised the solidarity and support of Elder High Chief (Prof.) Eyo Etim Nyong for accepting to be its Grand Patron as well as nurturing it to achieve the objectives for which it was setup. It also appreciated others including Engr. Ben Akak, Obonganwan Nsidung Barbara James, Elder Bassey Etim, President of Hwosa, Calabar Branch, Engr. Bassey Nkposong of the Cross River Basin and Rural Development Authority, Chief Ene Okpo Ene-Ita, State Director of the NDDC, Cross River State, Chief Kooffreh Bassey Kooffreh as well as Mr. Effanga Randolph Bassey for their kind gesture in the area of welfare and advancement of the organizations.

Earlier an Apostolic Church Clergy, Elder Mbang in a brief homily drawn from 1st Corinthian 13:1 – 13 urged the organization to take advantage of the love of God and their social conditions to be strong and chart a course that would make out a meaningful life and a better future for them and the society at large.

He emphasised that any group or society that founded on love and unity will always endure and grow.

The group had earlier announced plans to initiate programmes that will enable them ensure the restoration of lost glories and privileges of members especially with the establishment of the National Commission Disabilities by the Federal Government.
