Women with disabilities under the auspices of Network for Disabled Women(NDW) have called on government to do more to secure the lives of Nigerians respective of their status, location and tribe.
This plead was made at Network for Disabled Women(NDW) organized town hall meeting on 28th July titled #SECURE OUR LIVES-women dialogue on insecurity in Nigeria
It is an action by Nigerian women across the country to share their first hand experiences of the insecurity (kidnapping, farmer herder violence, state sponsored violence, non-state actor violence and general including rape, murder, assault, armed robbery etc, document women’s experiences of insecurity across Nigeria and amplify these experiences with the aim of exerting demands of improved security for Nigerians, Discuss and agree options for collaborative solutions or actions until security improves in Nigeria.

NDW organized this campaign across 11 states and The President of the NDW, Lois Auta anchored the campaign in Abuja which took place in Disability Colony, Karmajiji. The event brought together women with disabilities from all works of life to share their experiences and call for the end of insecurity in Nigeria.
The President of NDW, Lois Auta in her speech said that #SecureOurLives is a campaign by Nigerian women to end insecurity because women suffer more when it comes to insecurity. She said that #SecureOurLives had its first Nationwide action on June 22, 2021, women and men, people from different works of life came out to join their voices together and demand that the Government secure their lives.
She stated that violence is raging in every sphere of Nigeria, in the first quarter of 2021, over 220 kidnapping incidents were recorded with at least 2,114 victims. In the same first quarter, over 600 schools closed across six states in the North. At least 3,133 people died between April and June this year. 293 from South Eas; from South South; and 177 from South West.

She further stated that it is the rising state of already deteriorated insecurity in Nigeria that lead to the second #SecureOurLives on 28th July, 2021. An action in form of a Town Hall Meeting-converging Nigerian citizens across 31 states to stand up and speak out against the uncurbed insecurity that is incessantly rocking this and disrupting the peace of its people.

The event witnessed experience sharing by women with disabilities, candle light procession in honour of all those that lost their lives in this preventable insecurity.
