To mark the end of Ramadan season for Muslim faithfuls, the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities hosted persons with Disabilities for iftar on Tuesday May 15th 2021 to symbolically break of the fast.
It was an avenue that created warmth, communalism and a level playing ground where the high and mighty sat together to eat and drink in the spirit of oneness.
In a statement signed by The Chief Press Secretary of the Commission, Dooshima Pius-Ikerave, the
Executive Secretary welcomed all participants saying it wasn’t a gathering of speeches but an avenue to eat and merry together. The former All Progressive Congress disabled leader and Founder para soccer Alhaji Misbahu Lawal Didi, while making his speech collaborated with the position of the ES by saying no protocol is required in event of this nature as such everyone should go ahead and eat.
The meal was opened by Senator Yusuf A. Yusuf Chair, Senate Committee on special duties followed by other dignitaries who registered their presence.
During the event the selfless, humble, and dedicated chief servant for Persons with Disabilities Mr James Lalu, folded his sleeves and participated in serving and ensuring everyone has eaten, a father indeed. it is said ” He who wears the Shoes knows where it pitches the most” Mr James Lalu has toiled through this path for 24 years, and understands clearly what it means to be a PWD.
With little and with so much therefore, he fits completely into every shoes and with his humble deposition he carries on selflessly and joyfully. Alhaji Didi, unbehalf of the Disability Community, thanked the Es for the show of love and commitment at every given opportunity to brighten the faces of Persons with Disabilities.
However, he implored persons with Disabilities to pray for their leader Mr. James Lalu, and by extension the Commission so that they can function properly and bring succor to the Disability Community.Senator Yusuf A. Yusuf in his closing remarks thank President Muhammad Buhari for establishing the Commission as well as chosing the best hands to lead. according to him, it is a Person with Disability that can understand the plight of his people.
Senator Yusuf thanked the ES and urged him to continue on the path of never relenting and challenged PWDs to desist from begging and negative vices and embrace positive vices. The Iftar ended on a pleasant note.
