As a precursor to the commemoration of the International Women’s day, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons With Disabilities, Mr James David Lalu has announced that Women with Disabilities will be adequately cared- for in the Commission’s budget in order to prevent Gender-Based Violence in Nigeria.
In a press release signed by Mbanefo JohnMichael I, the head of Media and Publicity Unit, NCPWD, the ES who was represented by the Head, Women & Gender Unit NCPWD, Mrs. Olanike Akinbola made this known today 7th March, 2022 at the two-day capacity building workshop organized by the Center for Social Justice in Abuja.
Lalu further disclosed that the Commission is equally planning a social orientation to enlighten children and women with disabilities on their fundamental rights in order to prepare their minds against any form of abuse and violence.
He also commended the organizers for being proactive by drawing public attention to the need to focus on human capacity development and wealth creation to empower women in various capacities for meaningful impacts in the society.
Furthermore, the Executive Secretary seized the aoccasion to call on all stakeholders to make the budgetary process inclusive and data driven in order to gain proper buy-in from the public.
Earlier in his presentation, the convener of the Workshop, Barrister Eze Onyekpere highlighted the importance of having quantitative and qualitative budgetary process before budget presentation to the appropriate approving authorities.
He disclosed that it is unfortunate that most of the condiments in the appropriation by Gender and women departments in government offices get thrown out due to incoherence in their approach.
Onyekpere further elaborated on the budget cycle which envisages the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the Medium Term Sector Strategies (MTSS).
He later stated that the two- day training will equip officers saddled with the budgetary responsibilities in the MDAs with the right knowledge and requisite skills to improve the budget processes in their offices.
