TQM report,
Tropical Gate Foundation in collaboration with The Qualitative Magazine (TQM) on Saturday donated a token of N10,000 to Kester Benjamin, a wheelchair user who have been homeless and stranded at National Stadium, Lagos for months.
Kester Benjamin who is a father of two, was a powerlifter but due to age, he could no longer compete. He has been out of job for a longtime and for that reason, he could no longer afford pay for his house rent which led to his wife leaving him and his two children.
He had to send his children to his grand mother to struggle on his own to earn a living to let an apartment and reunite with his children. This fit have been so difficult for him as he has struggled for months now but still he could not raise money so, he resorted to asking for help and he reached out to Tropical Gate Foundation and The Qualitative Magazine (TQM) under a partnership that geared towards building human capital development of persons with disabilities.
It is out of our mandate to give alms to persons with disabilities, we are more interested in teaching them how to fish not giving them fish. We understand that if you give alms today, the person will surely come back for alms tomorrow.
Kester case is pathetic because he has been sneaking in to sleep in a corridor at the National Stadium, Lagos and have been praying he doesn’t get caught, that is why we have to get him a token and wish to use our platform to call on the public to come and assist him while we will enroll him soon in our program so that he can have something doing instead of begging because if he raise money for his accommodation now, he will renew it after one year and he doesn’t need to go back to the street.
Kester Benjamin is from Delta State, Igbodo , Eka local government of Delta State. He had polio at the age of nine months and since then, he has been struggling because his parents did not see reasons to send him to school because of his disability. Since then, he has been a wheelchair user and too bad, the wheelchair he is using now is already bad. Donating a wheelchair to him would be helpful as well.
He told TQM that all he need is to have roof over his head and get something to take care of his bills and children.
