In a resounding chorus of congratulations, the Executive Director of The Qualitative Magazine (TQM) and founder of JOMIDA Foundation For Persons With Disabilities, Comrade Chris Obiora Agbo has joined other well-meaning Nigerians and members of the disability community to celebrate the appointment of Chief Ayuba Gufwan as the new Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD). This appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is being hailed as a well-deserved recognition of Chief Gufwan’s extensive contributions to the rights and empowerment of individuals with disabilities.
In a heartfelt message, the TQM Executive Director described Chief Gufwan’s appointment as a significant milestone. “His appointment is well deserved, having contributed so much to improve the rights of persons with disabilities and empowering individuals with disabilities,” he remarked. The Director urged Chief Gufwan to seize this opportunity to enhance the implementation of the Disability Act, particularly in critical areas such as employment, health, accessible infrastructure, and education. “I urge him to use this opportunity to enhance the implementation of the Disability Act, especially in the areas of employment, health, accessible infrastructure, and education,” he stated. Further emphasizing the importance of inclusive governance, he advised Chief Gufwan to adopt an open-door policy and run an administration that embraces all voices within the disability community. “Adopt an open-door policy and run an all-inclusive governance which will help harness the best ideas,” he advised. He also highlighted the necessity for Chief Gufwan to continue and build upon the good initiatives of the previous administration under Dr. James David Lalu. “Improve on the good initiatives of the past administration of Dr. James David Lalu and initiate far-reaching ideas to ensure that the Commission has a positive impact on the lives of persons with disabilities,” he encouraged. Continuity where necessary, far reaching innovations and being proactive are crucial for sustained progress and long-term success.

The Director urged Chief Gufwan to ensure that his administration has a direct impact on the lives of these individuals. “Ensure that your administration has a direct impact on the lives of persons with disabilities, especially those in rural communities,” he emphasized. Building harmonious relationships among organizations of persons with disabilities and different disability clusters was another key piece of advice. “Build a harmonious relationship among organizations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) and different clusters of disability so that there will be a common purpose in the pursuit of the plights of persons with disabilities,” he advised. Unity and collaboration within the disability community are vital for amplifying their collective voice and achieving common goals.
The Director also extended his congratulations to Chief Gufwan for this opportunity to showcase his capabilities in assisting persons with disabilities.
