TLMN, DAI Train PWDs on Advocacy and Disability Inclusive Development

The Leprosy mission Nigeria (TLMN)) in collaboration with Disability Advancement Initiative have trained persons with disabilities on Advocacy and Disability Inclusive Development.

The group put together a two day training in Abuja on Tuesday and Wednesday focusing on advocacy on disability issues.

The facilitator at the workshop, Noel Balogun, a disability inclusion expert guided the participants through what is advocacy, how to carry out advocacy, the right approaches to advocacy, identifying the problems, setting the objectives, formulating activities to achieve the objectives.

The Executive Director of Disability Advancement Initiative (DAI), Obinna Ekujereonye speaking at the event said that training is to equip the participants (PWDs) in advocacy. He said that there is need for PWDs to acquire knowledge and skills in disability inclusive development advocacy.

Some of the participants while speaking to TQM said that the training gave them opportunity to acquire some skillsets to engage duty bearers to ensure that the laws and policies on disability are implemented.

The participants are expected to use the knowledge and skills acquired to advocate for some relevant issues towards the wellbeing of persons with disabilities such as Health, Education, Access to building, Transportation etc.
