South African Envoys Pay Courtesy Visit to Dr. Christopher Nwanoro, Reaffirm Strong Bilateral Ties

The Ambassador of South Africa, alongside senior officials of the mission, on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Dr. Christopher Nwanoro (CDA a.i.), Member of the United Nations Committee on Disability representing Africa and Founder of the Lotus Initiative for the Blind.

The visit, held in a warm and cordial atmosphere, was to convey New Year goodwill and to formally notify Dr. Nwanoro of the planned closure of the South African Embassy in São Tomé, scheduled for 31 March 2026.

Beyond the formal notification, the engagement served as an opportunity for both parties to reflect on the enduring diplomatic relationship between South Africa and São Tomé. The South African delegation expressed deep appreciation for the longstanding cooperation between the two countries and acknowledged Dr. Nwanoro’s significant contributions to diplomacy and disability inclusion at both regional and global levels.

Discussions during the meeting reaffirmed a shared commitment to sustaining cordial relations and continued collaboration, despite the upcoming embassy closure. Both sides emphasized that the decision would not diminish the strong people-to-people ties and mutual respect that have characterized relations over the years.

The courtesy visit underscored the value placed on diplomacy rooted in partnership, mutual understanding, and shared values, particularly in advancing inclusive development and disability rights across Africa.
