Nigeria Association of The Blind (NAB) has appealed to Nigerians, NGOs and government to come to the aid of one of their versatile youth member, Babatunde Kareem.
In a press statement signed by Comrade Oluwadamilola Monsurudeen Sodeyi aka Mr. Computer (National Youth Leader), Comrade Nasirudeen Oladele ( National Youth Secretary), who signed on behalf of National PRO, they explained that Mr. Babatunde Kareem is a victim of a life-threatening injury on 23 of May 2023 while about entering into establishment office at Alagbaka Akure, Ondo state.
Mr. Babatunde after alighting from the bike (Okada) and because of his lack of sight, he fell into an uncovered gutter at the front of the establishment office.
“The worst part of it is that the gutter has some rods at the edges which injured him in his genital organ and Utrera and caused him internal bleeding and blockage preventing passage of urine through his manhood since then” they added.
They pointed out that the first hospital he was rushed to rejected him due to the severity of the injury and asked he should be taken to the federal medical centre Owo before another private hospital accepted to rescued him because the bleeding was getting out of hand.
He has had the first surgery which was done to allow him pass urine through the urinary catheter (urine passing pipe) and the Doctor said another surgical operation shall be carried out after two month which will be due in less than two weeks from now to reconnect the passage of his urine to the genital organ. The amount needed is one million naira (N1,000,000).
Consequently, with this prevailing health challenges, our brother, Kareem Babatunde must drink two buckets of water daily so that he will have enough water in his system to flush out some unwanted fluids so that it won’t aggravate his pain. Even at night, he must wake up to drink, else he will be in pain.
Let’s help him raise the money for the surgery as soon as possible. He has just less than two weeks before the situation gets worsening. He needs to go for his second operation as soon as possible.
With permission and approval of NAB national President Comrade Onyebuchi Stanley Nnamdi, they are calling on all the members of NAB in Nigeria to assist, saying that no amount is too small. 1, 000, 000 naira is needed.
