RIFB APPEALS FOR THE ENFORCEMENT OF NIGERIA WITH DISABILITY ACT

The founder/CEO of Redemption International for the Blind (RIFB), an international NGO based in Jos, Bar Sunny Ezurike has appealed to the Plateau State Disability Rights Commission to enforce the Nigeria with Disability Act in the state.

Bar Ezurike made this appeal while on courtesy call to the newly appointed Chairperson of the Plateau State Disability Rights Commission, Hon. Kyennan Mizim on Friday 16th July 2021 at the Commission’s office in Jos.
Congratulating her on the well deserved appointment he said this commission is ready to collaborate and partner with the commission in every aspect as it touches persons with Disabilities in the state.

“At last, we can rejoice and celebrate our very own who can identify with our plight is in charge. Ms Mizim who is differently enabled is a round peg in a round hole whose appointment is inline with international best practices, ‘nothing about us without us” he said.

Responding, Ms Kyennan Mizim thanked the NGO for the visit and show of solidarity and said her office will partner with NGOs and development partners who are working to better the lives of PWDs.
Hon. Mizim said she will work extensively towards including the inclusion of PWDs in governance.
“I intend to work closely with civil service commission to make sure that the reserved 5% employment for PWDs is implemented in every ministry and parastatals” she stated.

Secretary of the commission, Mr Carl Gurumyen said the mandate of the commission is to liaise with anybody ready to bring positive change in the lives of PWDs.

On behalf of board members of the commission, Mr Seth Attah thanked Redemption International for the Blind for their willingness to partner with the commission and assured them of the commission’s readiness to collaborate with them on mutual projects.
